One of the biggest pieces in Gillingham’s summer transfer jigsaw finally arrived as goalkeeper Ollie Wright arrived at the club on a season-long loan from Southampton to immediately become the club’s first-choice keeper.
For Wright, who just signed a contract extension at The Saints, the move was perfectly timed, with the 23-year-old stopper happy to continue his development with a full stint at Gillingham following a successful campaign between the sticks at Accrington Stanley.
“I'm absolutely buzzing to be here,” he said.
“It's been a good morning meeting the staff and looking out at the Rainham End. We were playing here last year, and definitely wanted to come back after playing here, so here I am.”
