Gillingham defender Andy Smith is grateful for the experience alongside him, and the positive approach of the man coaching him, as he gets set for his second full season as a Gills player.
Smith initially started out at the Gills as a loanee from Hull City, but last summer he made that move permanent when the two clubs agreed a deal to allow Smith to head south to become a Gill full-time.
Now, after joining the club during a difficult 2024/25 campaign, and enduring an equally frustrating season in 2025/26, Smith is determined to play his part to help the side to a more successful campaign in 2026/27.
