Gillingham's eighth summer signing was perhaps the one most fans saw coming, despite the fact that nobody had linked him with the club until recently.
Midfielder Nick Freeman wasn't a name on many fans' radars heading into the summer. But when the experienced midfielder, who played extensively under Gills boss Gareth Ainsworth at Wycombe Wanderers as the club went from League Two to the Championship, arrived at Priestfield on trial earlier this summer, it didn't take long for people to join the dots.
The midfielder, who had most recently played for Shrewsbury Town, joined the Gills squad this summer as a free agent trialist, and featured against Dover Athletic, Charlton Athletic and Millwall during pre-season.
