Every transfer has a story to tell, but few have the sort of feel-good factor of Gillingham FC’s latest signing, Lennon MacLorg.
The young goalkeeper, who departed Charlton Athletic to join the Gills, has been a Gillingham supporter since he was a young boy, and has been a regular fan at Priestfield, along with his family. Now he is officially a member of the first-team squad at Priestfield.
MacLorg, who started out playing youth football for Thamesview before transitioning to the senior game as a teenager with Holland & Blair, joined Rochdale’s Under-18s setup before moving south to Charlton in the summer of 2024.
While at The Addicks, MacLorg was loaned out to Braintree and Whitehawk, and now he’s been given the chance to develop his career at Football League level as part of Gareth Ainsworth’s first-team squad at ME7 alongside new loan signing from Southampton and likely first-team starter Ollie Wright, and former Gills youth product Taite Holtam.
It’s a proud moment not only for MacLorg, but also for his family, who have held season tickets at Priestfield for several seasons.
