Gillingham boss Gareth Ainsworth had teased the signing of Ollie Wright a day before the Southampton stopper was officially unveiled as the Gills' sixth summer signing.
Speaking to BBC Radio Kent on Thursday, Ainsworth was asked specifically about the club's progress in finding a first-team goalkeeper for the coming campaign, with fans starting to get a little twitchy online about a perceived lack of movement after releasing both Glenn Morris and Jake Turner at the end of last season.
Ainsworth explained his approach to the goalkeeping position at Priestfield, as he revealed that, rather than rather than signing multiple first-team keepers and letting them fight it out for the starting job, he prefers to operate with a clearly-defined number one goalkeeper, and revealed that the player he had lined up was someone he had great faith in to take over between the sticks at Priestfield.
