Gillingham FC address goalkeeping need with loan signing of Southampton’s Ollie Wright

The 23-year-old, who has been with the Saints since signing youth forms with the South Coast club back in 2012, has spent the majority of his senior career out on loan picking up valuable first-team experience. 

Southampton have managed his progression smartly, with Wright's first two loan spells seeing him pick up first-team football in at National League South level with Bath City and Worthing. Then he moved up a level to the National League for stints with Yeovil Town and Solihull Moors.

Last season saw Wright spend a full campaign at League Two Accrington Stanley, where he kept 12 clean sheets in 43 league appearances for The Reds for an average of one clean sheet every 3.58 matches in a side that finished level on points with the Gills in 2025/26.

Now Wright has arrived at Priestfield, and he's clearly excited to get started."I am fortunate to have played a lot of games last season to gain my experience and hopefully I can bring that to Gillingham," he said.

"I'd like to say I am quite commanding, coming for crosses and taking the pressure off the back line.

"I can't wait to get working with Deren (Ibrahim, Gillingham's goalkeeping coach). I am ready to go."
