Gillingham FC manager Gareth Ainsworth was delighted with his team’s resolve as they picked up their first league point of the season, but there was another group of individuals he was keen to credit after the Gills’ 0-0 draw at Fleetwood Town.
As well as his players, Ainsworth also paid tribute to the 336 away fans that made the huge round trip from Kent to back his side at Highbury Stadium.
“Absolutely incredible,” he enthused as he spoke to Gills TV after the match.
“People are on holiday. It's August. The sun's out. They could be down the Lido in Gillingham. But no, they got on the road, and believe me, it was eight hours for us yesterday, an eight-hour trip.
