The mid-week departure of Gillingham striker Seb Palmer-Houlden to Motherwell for an undisclosed fee came completely out of leftfield and surprised the Gills fanbase, as the club cashed in on an asset that hadn't quite established himself as a first-team starter during his time at the club.
A hard-running, energetic front man, Palmer-Houlden was a willing chaser of lost causes for the Gills, but with the former Bristol City man unable to lock down a regular starting role in the side, he found it tough to fully establish himself in the side.
It meant that, when the season got underway at Priestfield last weekend, Palmer-Houlden was among the substitutes, and only came on late to replace striker Will Goodwin to add fresh legs to the attack on a searingly hot afternoon at ME7.
