Gillingham have made a late Deadline Day move to bring another attacking option into the building with the signing of Leyton Orient midfielder Zech Obiero on a season-long loan.
A product of the Tottenham Hotspur academy, Obiero joined Leyton Orient as a youth player and made his way through from Under-18 to senior level.
Loan spells with Cheshunt and Chelmsford helped him get more regular game time and last season, he made five league appearances for The O's, before a loan move to Tranmere Rovers saw him make 13 appearances in League Two, scoring twice. Coincidentally, his Rovers debut came at Priestfield, in a 2-1 defeat to the Gills back in February.
This season, Obiero has come off the bench twice for Orient – in their home defeats to Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley – and was an unused sub for the O's away wins at Wigan and, tonight, at Bromley.
Now the 21-year-old is set to make the short hop down the A2 to the Medway Towns, where he'll join up with Gareth Ainsworth's new-look Gills squad for the rest of the campaign.
