Gillingham were forced to battle back from an early setback, but the team showed resilience and character as they fought back to eventually defeat Rotherham United in convincing fashion on Matchday 10.

Gareth Ainsworth’s side headed north to the New York Stadium looking to build on their goalless draw with Newport County at Priestfield as they looked to build some form following their 3-0 away defeat at York on Matchday 8.

And, after gifting an opening goal to Paul Mullin on 17 minutes, Gillingham managed to compose themselves, settle into the game and eventually take over to claim a resounding awayday victory.

“I think that we've got to look at the boys and go, 'You know what? They're a totally different group to what I've had before.'”

Ainsworth credits assistants for half-time changes as Gills romp to victory

Gillingham boss Gareth Ainsworth was understandably delighted after his side came from behind to earn a 4-1 away win at Rotherham United on Matchday 10.

A defensive mistake led to Paul Mullin putting the hosts head on 17 minutes, but a brace from Ronan Hale, plus goals from Lamin Sillah and Tom Eaves, sealed a memorable awayday victory for Ainsworth’s side, who claimed their second away win – and second 4-1 away victory – of the campaign.

“In this league, you've got to be ruthless, and I feel that [in] the two 4-1 games, it's been brilliant from everyone.”

Hale 'buzzing' after first brace of the season

Gillingham boss Gareth Ainsworth said that there were clear improvements at one end of the pitch, but a lack of creativity at the other as Gillingham drew 0-0 with Newport County.

Describing the response to last week’s defeat as “pleasing,” Ainsworth said that there were reasons to be happy after a relatively drab afternoon at Priestfield.
